FAQ: License keys

Whether you use physical ikeys or cloud keys, this article answers your frequently asked questions

What is an AVA Cloud Key?

Cloud Keys are a virtual keying system allowing far greater flexibility of working location and machine. If that means working from the studio on a desktop workstation one day, and then from your sofa the next on a laptop, Cloud Keys will allow you to do so without any pre-planning or remembering to take your Physical Key home with you.

How do Cloud Keys work?

When using a Cloud Key, all you’ll need to do is enter your key into AVA Keying Utility on first use with any machine, and then launch your AVA applications like normal. Once set up on more than one machine, to swap between machines just quit from the first one and then launch on the second, no other steps are required. There are no limits on how many machines each key can be associated with, although the maximum number of simultaneous users will be determined by what you have purchased/leased from AVA. Step by step guides to set up your Cloud Key are available on AVA Assist, or the AVA Technical Support team are always on hand to help you.

What happens if my internet drops out using a Cloud Key?

Cloud Keys are an internet-enabled keying system. This means that, to launch and continue using AVA applications, we will periodically connect to our server to validate your keying information. This has been designed to facilitate as flexible a way of working as possible, whilst being non-intrusive, requiring a connection to our server only a handful of times a day (allowing you to work even if your remote internet connection is not perfect).

Occasional drops in internet connections are very unlikely to cause you any noticeable issues. If you were to be unfortunate enough to experience an extend period of internet outage (24hrs+) we would recommend you call AVA Technical Support, and we will help in any way we can.

Can I still use Cloud keys running the latest version of AVA in the office but an older hardware at home?

Yes, you can use cloud keys on older hardware as long as you are running a minimum of AVA 5.7 which is compatible with macOS® 11 (Big Sur) as a minimum.
