Editing chips in a colour file

Make changes to a saved colour chip

When colour chips are saved within a colour file, you can edit their names and colour values very easily.

There are a couple of ways to edit a colour chip:

  • Double click on the colour you want to edit in the colour file
  • Highlight the colour and select Edit Chip from the Colour Menu

The window which opens will display the colour swatch; the name of the chip; the screen RGB values; the printer RGB values; CMYK values  of there are any, and the Lab or XYZ values.  If the chip has reflectance data, this will be displayed in the form of a graph in the bottom left of the window.

Note: Chips will not have reflectance data if they have been sampled from design using the Pipette Tool.  If you have read the colour in using a spectrophotometer, and have created the colour from one of our colour pickers, the colour will have reflectance data.

The individual transparency and resist value of the colour can also be set in this window.

To start editing the values of the colour, simply type in the relevant dialogue boxes. Alternatively, you can ⌥ (option key) click on the chip to open your colour picker.

If you choose to edit the colour using the CMYK Picker, the CMYK check box will automatically switch itself on. This simply indicates that the colour has CMYK values. The checkbox will also become activated if you use a CMYK profile in your AVA CMS Controller.

To edit the reflectance data of the colour, click on the graph. AVA uses a range from 400 to 700, and values are entered manually.
