Instructions for using this tool
This tool is used to draw irregular shaped grids and is used in areas where the grid has to trace the movement of a garment or an object.
Each individual square within the grid is defined by the user, as you ‘knit’ the cells inside the grid, one by one. In the following example, the grid is created with rows running from left to right, working downwards for ease of explanation. However, you can easily create a grid using columns in a different direction if you prefer.
- Go to Grid Menu > Add Grid and select the Contour Grid Tool from the Tools Palette.
- Starting at the top left corner of the area you wish to grid, click a point which you wish to be the top left point of the first cell to start the ‘thread’.
- Click again to the right. Your second click will define the top of the first cell. Your third click will make the top of the 2nd cell. Your fourth will form the top of the 3rd cell. Continue clicking to the right until you have covered the width of the area you are gridding.
- To end the row, double click on the final point. This will join the thread back to your starting point.
- Click at the point that you wish to become the bottom left hand corner of the first row of cells and then click to the right at the point where you wish the bottom right hand corner to be. You will now have created your first complete cell.
- Continue clicking to the right to complete the first row of cells. At the end of the line, double click to return the thread to the left side and begin a second row of cells.
- Continue creating rows of cells until the grid covers the desired area of the scene.
- To finish the grid, choose another tool from the Tools Palette.
