Large prints such as wall murals, where the document size is wider than the printer, can be handled effectively by splitting them into sections and printing them separately. The same technique can be applied where a printer is sheet fed rather than roll fed.
Click on the relevant print queue and go to Queue Menu > Large Prints… or click on the Large Print Settings button in the toolbar of the print queue.
A settings window will open:
Width and, if necessary, height measurements must be entered to tell the AVA Digital Print Rip how big each section must be. Depending on the print job you may want to rotate the file and print the full width of the file down the printer and split the height into sections. It may work better to print the file in the conventional direction and split it into sections of the printing width of the printer.
Remember to allow for a sufficient overlap measurement in your calculation and enter it in the relevant Overlap field(s). Large overlaps may be necessary, particularly for more abstract designs where joins may not be clearly visible.
Once the measurements have been calculated and entered in your chosen units, activate the relevant Width and/or Height options by ticking the boxes on the left.
Once set up, the AVA Digital Print Rip splits all large print files into manageable pieces, meaning you can easily cut the prints and piece them together to create the larger final product.
