Grids can be used on the colourway layout to make all colourway objects line up. With the Snap function switched on, colourway objects can be moved around the page and they will constrain to the grids, helping with the overall presentation.
Grids
The top, left corner of the colourway is used as the ‘snapping’ point.
- Open the Layout Window and choose View > Grid... or click on the Grid tab in the Layout Inspector.
- Enter the required grid dimensions and origin.
- Click on the Show and Snap to boxes to activate them and click OK. The Layout Window will display the grid.
Grid reference numbers can be displayed on the grid to aid accurate placement of colourways. To activate this option, select View > Grid… Switch on the Number option and click OK. The grid reference numbers will be displayed, identifying each row and column reference.
Rulers
Rulers and guides can be displayed in the Layout Window helping the creation of presentation layouts. Guides are saved with the file and are therefore still present when you reopen the Layout Window. When moving a colourway object, Snap to Guides works on each corner of the object, thus aiding accurate positioning of the object on the page.
Rulers must be switched on before you can start adding guides. To do this, simply click on the Show Rulers icon in the tool bar for the Design Window, or choose View > Rulers > Show or Hide.
Guides
When you have rulers showing in the Layout Window, guides can now be added by clicking on these rulers. To add a vertical guide, click on the horizontal ruler along the top of the window. To add a horizontal guide, click on the vertical ruler down the left hand side of the window.
