This tool produces a splattered spray effect using a range of different sized dots of paint.
Select the Splatter Tool from the Tools Palette or press Y on the keyboard to automatically select this tool. Its settings window will open displaying its settings:
- Size - alter the size of the spray area by dragging the circle at the top of the window bigger or smaller. As you drag the circle down and to the right, the spray area will start multiplying in size, indicated by x2, x3, x4 and so on, appearing in the centre of the circle. To decrease the spray size, drag the circle smaller towards the top left of the window.
- Flow - set the spray amount (flow rate) by moving the slider bar left or right. A light, open spray will result when the slider is set to the left. A heavier, more intense spray results when the slider is set to the right.
-
From / To - click on the different dot sizes in the from and to rows to alter the range of dots in the spray. To include the full dot range, select the smallest dot in the from row and the largest dot in the to row. For a fine spray, select small dots in both rows. For a chunky spray, select large dots in both rows.
In addition to the above settings, the side menu contains several other options which applies interest to your splatter effects. Because they are pressure settings, they only work in conjunction with a graphics pen and tablet, such as a Wacom Tablet™ . These pressure settings will not work when using a mouse.
- Centred - more droplets of the splatter are concentrated in the centre of the spray
- Pressure Scale - the dot size range and the area covered by the splatter are altered according to the pressure used with the pen and tablet
- Pressure Size - the area covered by the splatter will vary according to the pressure used with the pen and tablet (the size of the dots will remain as set in the window
- Pressure Density - the tonal strength of the splatter spray will vary according to the pressure of the pen and because of this, will only work on 8 bit (tonal) layers
- Pressure Flow - overriding the Flow setting in the main window, this will alter the flow depending on the pressure allied to the pen
