We do not recommend editing a custom overprint unless you are advised to by an AVA Technician. In most cases, the results calculated by the CustomOverprint.app produces very satisfactory results, and brings your CAD prints in line with those from production.
Editing a custom overprint
In the CustomOverprint.app, go to the Custom Overprint menu, and select Edit. The following window will appear:
Each slider controls one of the 16 values that make up a custom overprint.
The rainbow across the top is a very approximate guide to the colour range that each slider controls.
The adjustable parameters are:
- S - represents surface reflection from the design. It basically changes the intensity of the overprint. Increasing S makes the darkest possible black lighter.
- C - is the C value from the Overprint Inspector in AVA - viscosity, or thickness. It affects how two colours overprint. Past tests indicate that setting all these sliders to 0.20 is a very good starting point.
The window shows the values for the current best solution found by the software. If you edit the values, then the suggested ‘optimised’ solution is replaced by the edited one. If you start the optimiser in the Results window, then your edited values will get replaced if the optimiser finds a better solution. (Better is determined by a weighted sum of the result delta-E statistics).
Custom Overprints should only be edited if there is a real problem with the Custom Overprint the optimiser has produced.
