JPEG files compress to very small sizes which makes them ideal for sending via email. They open directly into AVA so there are no specific settings required to open them. When saving JPEG files, their size and quality can be altered and the image build mode can be selected.
When opening Jpeg files, AVA automatically reads any embedded ICC profiles and applies them to the relevant layers. Also, AVA automatically saves any embedded profiles within the Jpeg files that it writes to. Please note that a layer must have a specific profile applied to it to signify that it needs to be written to the file. Default or system profiles are not included automatically.
Saving a JPEG file
- Select Save As... from the File Menu.
- Click on the Format pop up bar, select JPEG and click Save. Firstly a window will open warning you that JPEG does not support all of AVA’s settings:
When you click OK to this window, a second window will open showing the JPEG settings:
- Drag the slider bar to the desired percentage quality. A low quality will give high file compression but may distort the image.
- Progressive - initially loads a low resolution outline of the design and then builds up the remainder of the image, when used on a web page
